Fashioned from Nature: Artists’ Open House

Sue will be participating in this special Members event to celebrate the opening of Fashioned from Nature exhibition.

An evening of demonstrations and displays of work by four artists and makers who take their inspiration from nature.

‘An Embroiderer’s Art’ – Private Studio Tour

Sue welcomes a private party of textile/fashion students led by Susan Khalje, of America to her studio. This visit is part of an organised tour, visiting couture studios in London, specialist embroidery classes, exhibitions. Students will see embroidered fashion pieces from my archive collections, new works and see demonstrations.

In 2019, Sue plans to offer a couple of similar events to see archive pieces from my collection and new works. Details will be announced later in 2018. If you are interested and wish come, please email in advance:

The Big Stitch at the Ashmolean Museum Oxford

A celebration of all things embroidered at this famous museum: talks, tours, workshops. To coincide with the splendid exhibition of historic English embroideries from the Feller Collection, the Embroiderers' Guild in organizing another Big Stitch event. Sue is pleased to present her 'Pop-up Studio', set in the beautiful space of the Cast Gallery, visitors will see demonstrations, 'work in progress' and a new embroidered work especially created for this unique event in the Ashmolean.

The Big Stitch is a Free Event.

Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch at the N.E.C., Birmingham.

This year I have been invited to be a guest demonstrator on the Madeira stand; visitors will see an exciting array of machine embroideries using Madeira threads and water-soluble stabilizers.

Plus a chance to view my latest samples which I am creating for my 'Open Studio' exhibition in May. (Demonstrations: 10am - 4.30 daily).

'Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch' is a showcase for some of the UK'S finest textile arts; exhibition highlights include 'Les Miserables' Costumes by Paco Delado and exquisite Palestinian embroideries in the exhibit, 'A Palestinian Journey'.

Demonstrations and exhibition of Sue's embroideries during the afternoon of April 5th. Visitors will be able to pop in to the studio set, see 'work in progress' and experience the creative world of a leading textile artist . A chance to view the latest samples and also see works from her book, 'Embroidered Originals, signed copies available from Sue at this event.

'Open Studio' Exhibition

Charlbury, Oxfordshire

An exhibition in Sue's garden studio, featuring displays of botanical paintings, framed embroideries and 'works in progress'.

The show will include works from the collection created in 2013 for the 'Fashioned with Stitch' exhibition at The Silk Museum, Macclesfield.

This event is part of Oxfordshire Artweek 2014.

Textile Workshop in the Cotswolds

Farncombe Estate, Gloucestershire

A two day textile masterclass with Sue, in the inspiring setting of the Farncombe Estate, near Broadway and Chipping Campden.

The workshop offers a dual focus of design inspiration together with in depth tuition on contemporary embroidery techniques.

Experience of free machine embroidery is useful for this class; a technical expert on sewing machines will also be assisting Sue during the class.

'Enchanted' - the romance of lace inspires contemporary stitch.

Gawthorpe Hall is a National Trust property which houses the famous Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collection. The new displays, opening March 2013, have received funding from The Arts Council. Sue is one of the selected four contemporary artists whose lace embroidery will feature in the new displays. The contemporary exhibition is Inspired, 15 June - 3 Nov.

An inspirational showcase of textile arts featuring exhibitions, demonstrations, trade stands. Sue will be exhibiting 'works in progress' and demonstrating, visitors can enjoy displays of her latest work: sketches, designs and samples.

Plus a PowerPoint illustrated talk each day: 'Inspired' explores some of Sue's recent work for her solo show at the Macclesfield Silk Museum, June 1 - July 20, 2013.

Sue is one of the textile artists taking part in 'The Big Stitch' at the Ashmolean Museum, co-hosted by the Embroiderers' Guild. This celebration of embroidery coincides with the exhibition of exquisite Japanese Meiji textiles at the Ashmolean, 'Threads of Silk and Gold' features intricate embroideries and stunning tapestries and wall-hangings of the late 19th & early 20th century.

'Inspired' - Sue's talk explores the galleries of the Ashmolean, selecting treasures which have inspired her creative embroidery. A chance to study her original samples and enjoy a presentation of stunning images, from the past and the present.

New: This year Sue is one of the featured demonstrators in Textiles.

Exhibition of a new collection, 'Fashioned with Stitch', with demonstrations of unique machine embroidery techniques. A creative journey explored: sketchbooks of botanical drawings and paintings; intricate embroideries fashioned into diverse shapes and textures.

'Nature and nostalgia continue to infuse the language of my embroidery, with fashion influencing new dimensions for creative stitch'.

'In residence' at Hidcote Manor Garden

This beautiful Cotswold garden created by the American plant hunter Lawrence Johnson, is a favourite for garden lovers and artists. Sue will be exhibiting and demonstrating in the Chapel, with displays of embroideries and flower paintings inspired by the Red Border, including the 'Hidcote Lace' dress panel.

The Chapel is in the courtyard area near the main entrance.
This event will be open to visitors 10 - 4 daily.
National Trust entry charge to the garden, or free to members. Garden open 10 - 6 daily

Lectures & Book signing events

The programme of talks linked to the publication of 'Embroidered Originals' continues throughout 2012.

In the Spring and Summer, Sue will be giving presentations to textile societies and embroiderers' guilds in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire , Oxfordshire, Cornwall and Warwickshire.

In the autumn, Sue will be lecturing in London and Belfast.

These illustrated talks feature displays of the beautiful embroideries and artwork that appears in Sue's book 'Embroidered Originals'.
